The T.E.I. of Serres was established in 1979 and was recognised as the Technological Educational Institute belonging to the Greek Tertiary Education system in 1983. In June 2013 it was renamed to Technological Educational Institute of Central Macedonia.
There are documents attached to this application form concerning the change of the Institute’s name from TEI of Serres, to TEI of Central Macedonia.
It is a state Institute, which is self-governed, subject to public law, internally regulated and financed by public funds. Education is offered to students free of charge.
In September 1993, the T.E.I. was moved to its new premises which are located 300 metres away from the town centre stretching over an area of 82000m2.
The T.E.I. of Central Macedonia comprises two Faculties and one Department:
1. The Faculty of Applied Technology consisting of four Departments:
Civil Engineering and Surveying Engineering and Geoinformatics
Clothing Design and Technology (located in Kilkis)
2. The Faculty of Administration and Economics consisting of three Departments:
Accounting and Finance
Logistics (located in Katerini)
3. The Department:
Interior Architecture, Decoration and Design
The total number of registered students amounts to 14000 whereas that of the teaching staff comes up to 400.
The Institute’s evaluation system includes: a year round Internal Evaluation and an external evaluation every four years conducted by independent evaluators coming from foreign countries. The Civil, Surveying and Geomatics Engineering department has just finished its first internal evaluation as it was formed one and a half years ago by merging the Geomatics & Surveying Department with the Civil Engineering department according to Hellenic Law. The Geomatics & Surveying Department was evaluated by external evaluators in 2010 receiving an excellent score.
